In opdracht van mw. C. Hoogendoorn zijn in juni 2012 een archeologisch bureauonderzoek en een inventariserend veldonderzoek (IVO), verkennende fase, uitgevoerd in verband met de geplande (her)ontwikkeling van het plangebied aan de Mijzijde 38 in Kamerik, gemeente Woerden. Op basis van de resultaten van het bureauonderzoek wordt verwacht dat het plangebied in een veengebied ligt . Het veen was alleen bewoonbaar indien het veraard was, wat meestal het gevolg was van ontwatering door de mens en op hogere delen in het veenlandschap die pas later werden overgroeid met veen. Het gebied rondom Kamerik werd ontgonnen vanaf de Late Middeleeuwen. De bebouwing aan de westzijde van de wetering, rondom het plangebied, dateert waarschijnlijk pas vanaf de Nieuwe Tijd. De bewoning ten westen van de wetering lag lange meer dan een halve kilometer van de wetering. Vanaf de aanleg van bebouwing langs de Mijzijde ten oosten van het plangebied in de Nieuwe Tijd, ten minste vanaf de 17de of 18de eeuw, was het plangebied in gebruik als erf en weiland. Mogelijke resten van dit gebruik zijn aanwezig in de vorm van afvalkuilen, beerputten, waterputten en resten van (bij)gebouwen. Het veldonderzoek heeft uitgewezen dat in het plangebied inderdaad is opgebouwd uit een veenpakket met daarop een kleipakket. Resten vanaf de ontginning van het gebied zijn sterk verstoord door ophoging en omwerking van de bovenste lagen. Hierdoor zijn er geen intacte resten of sporen meer aanwezig in het plangebied van vóór de Late Middeleeuwen. Resten uit de Late Middeleeuwen en Nieuwe Tijd zijn mogelijk wel aanwezig in het plangebied en gerelateerd aan het erf van de bebouwing aan de wetering. Hier kunnen resten van (bij)gebouwen en water- en beerputten aangetroffen worden. Deze resten kunnen mogelijk meer duidelijkheid verschaffen over de bebouwing langs de wetering en dienen zodoende nader onderzocht te worden.
